[Crosspost] 4-ch merch? Would you buy, use and/or wear it? [Almighty Dollar] (23)

Crossposted (also to http://4-ch.net/iaa/kareha.pl/1342677170/1) from a /req/ thread (http://4-ch.net/req/kareha.pl/1155783400/20 -- HTML anchor tags, still present there, removed due to overzealous spamfilters), which has not gotten any replies in the week since I posted there:

>What would people say to the idea of 4-ch merch? I've been wearing the organic fitted tee version of this one for a couple years by now, but why not open an official shop on some printing site like Zazzle, Spreadshirt and/or Cafepress to help pay for hosting bills?
>Also, am I correct in my assumption that I don't need to ask permission before I print DQN-kun AA onto a shirt for myself? How about if I want to sell one with "http://4-ch.net/dqn/" printed on the front, and said AA on the back? Or DQN-kun bumper stickers? Do tanasinn.info and/or SAoVQ have any official merch outlets and/or plans to start them?

What would you fine people say to the idea of wearing/using Channel4 BBS-themed t-shirts, hoodies, tracksuits, raincoats, vests, boxers, keychains, coasters, posters, dakimakura (my single greatest idea to cater to SJIS Art fetishists yet), tote bags, bumper stickers, button badges, etc.? What about print-on-demand collections of your favourite threads?

I would also like some official input from 4-ch mods and/or admins regarding permissions and where to forward any resulting profit.

Is hosting really that expensive?

I'd wear a DQN shirt no matter how great or awful it'd be, but I'd hope it'd look nice. Though I think it'd be wrong if you were commercializing it for your own ends...

I don't know about hosting costs these days, but extra money for admins can't really hurt. Also, my Mittens shirt (http://www.cafepress.com/mf/18862954/it-carries-out-and-is-w_tshirt -- I recommend the light-coloured fitted version) seems to have great quality printing, and I like the font colour used as well. I just have not the faintest idea where profits from its sales go.

Great, my first customer! Now I only need to find a site that prints them ...

All proceeded go to me to maintain my hedonistic lifestyle of taking it easy at everyone elses expense.

Please, don't commercialize the last nice-went-mediocre things on the internet.

I - amazingly - agree with Espeon here.

The nice thing about our humor, though, is that it's far too niche to be picked up by everyone who so much as glances at it.

I'm a little wary of the commercialization aspect, I'll give you that. Still, so long as the store remains a relatively hush-hush place for us to get some cool stuff, I'd support it.

I'd be happy to put stuff up for zero mark-up on the printer site's standard prices, if nobody on the operations side of 4-ch wants anything to do with the merch profits. It's just that if I'm allowed to use this idea to help support the site, I'll happily do so.

Would you prefer if I offered every design in a single uniform colour?

A DQN shirt is something I would wear as pajamas. I'd be too afraid of somebody asking about it if I wore it in public. I only ever wear a plain t-shirt and jeans in public.

boxers, dakimakura, and pajama pants (not listed) would all be good to me. I mean I'm poor but id love to try to get merch.

15 Name: ( ˃ ヮ˂) : 1993-09-6899 09:41

I'd wear a DQN themed school girl outfit.

Call me autistic, but I've never seen the point in wearing a shirt with an in-joke only you will understand.

Bed sheets in general. Imagine a pillowcase with a sleeping Shii on it.

>>16 is this what they call "ironic" t-shirts? Nobody else understands the joke, thus making it kinda meaningless or even outright stupid? Is the irony in the joke becoming unfunny?

It's not so much the social aspect of the design which counts, but the comfort of knowing you belong to a niche community whose specific memes you can actually identify with. I'd wear a DQN shirt for that purpose alone. Plus, considering the social aspect anyway, our cryptic signs would represent just that; the fact that we do belong somewhere, that we're proud of who we are, regardless whether others know exactly what that may be.

That makes sense. I suppose it's like putting up posters or choosing a desktop wallpaper, even if nobody ever enters your room.

Maybe I'd buy something, but only if the funds went to Squeeks.
