In most people I think its overall lifestyle disease, diet is a part of it but I think lack of exercise and socialization (yes I know about covid), maybe improper sleep hygiene, technology overuse, etc. More people are living sedentary lifestyles than ever and maybe thats why depression is becoming common. When I worked at an institution people had episodes where they thought they were Satan, killed cats, couldnt go outside without having a panic attack, etc, people always bitch about people not respecting mental health or whatever but they often dont want to change.
