Broccoli is very hard to cook well. It has to be as fresh as possible, and steamed for a short length of time, only just long enough for it to no longer be tough, otherwise it's utterly tasteless. It's worth it, though. Cooked properly, it has a nice earthy flavour, with just a faint hint of bitterness. This is the vet's way of cooking broccoli. I can't recommend it to amateurs.
