Which Social Network is, in your opinion, the best one?
I personally like FaceBook.com. It has an exclusive feel to it due to the closed off 'networks', the features are solid and include little bits of ajax everywhere, the administrators seem to care about the site, and then the userbase is fairly large [10+ million?]. Not to mention the Google-like user interface is great.
Also, don't even bother to mention MySpace, please.
I socially networked everyone in my e-mailer.
HELLO I LIKE 4CH
IRC
As for me, I guess it's IRC as well.
indeed IRC.
I used to like Facebook until it opened to high schools and got all these corporate and profitable features. Now it's just IRC for me. I hope another network like Facebook comes up soon.
ICQ/AIM, for actually talking to most of my friends when I'm online, and besides that mostly IRC.
So, we're all a bunch of geeks in here, I guess.
Internet.
AIM, Google Talk, COMMODE on SDF, IRC
How do I addicted to IRC?
>>11
Find a channel full of cool people. I recommend #geekissues to start out.
Facebook, until it went public.
>>13
lol, #4-ch sucks. They're all assholes and they don't talk anyway.
Google Talk is a good client, but I don't know of that many people that use it. I mainly use it as an e-mail notifier.
> lol, #4-ch sucks. They're all assholes and they don't talk anyway.
there's nothing wrong with being an asshole and not talking. isn't that what irc is for?
>>15
Google Talk is a client for the Jabber network. You can talk to anyone who uses Jabber.
>>18
Of all people I know, online and IRL, there are exactly two that use Jabber (Or Google Talk). I don't really have a clue why Jabber isn't more widespread, but right now my Jabber ID's only function is to take up space in my IM client's "Active Connections" bar.
>>19
I dunno either. I use Jabber and I convinced a few friends to use it too. Its advantages over AIM, which like everyone uses, are
Come to think of it, the last one might be the client I'm using. Anyway, offline messages are well worth the switch in my opinion. Otherwise to carry on a conversation you have to wait online constantly => obsession and time-wasting.
> offline messages
you should use e-mail for that.
and there are ways to do offline messages on aim.
> doesn't give me "Rate to client" errors for sending too much, just because I type fast. I get those on AIM all the time.
yeah, that does suck.
> doesn't assume a less-than sign is the start of an HTML tag, and swallow all text
> Come to think of it, the last one might be the client I'm using.
yeah, that's probably the client you're using.
Email is ok as a way of sending information, but it isn't the same as a conversation. Too formal, too mixed in with junk, too easy to forget to reply, and it's not built to handle lots of short messages.
If by "there are ways" you mean the various bot services that will deliver messages on AIM, the message will come from a bot, so again, it's not the same as having a conversation. Also, nobody I know uses those.
MSN Messenger.
>>23
takes more than 5 minutes to sign on. AIM only takes about 1/4 of a second.
>>24 I takes me like 2 seconds, it must just be your problem.
>>25
i've had the same problem with 4 different computers, 4 different isps, and 3 different clients (msn messenger, gaim, and kopete). i think that makes it microsoft's problem.
>>26 Maybe you should man up, and stop whining.
>>27 Maybe you should man up, and stop being Microsoft's bitch.
>>28 Maybe you should man up, and go fuck yourself. Wait...that's the only person you fuck, sorry.
No manual entry for up
Jabber, mail, IRC and LiveJournal. Mmmm. Drama.
Myspace is a bit slow I agree. But you shouldn't even try to use it if you have dial up..Do you have Dial up?
Best social networking site is easily the Nag's Head around the corner.
I use myspace, but it is getting to the point where I would rather talk to a wall.
Real life social networking for the win!
usually use aim or msn
i have a myspace, but i don't really use it too much
I use Mixi.
>>37
Try mirrors, that rocks and you can look like a badass psychopath. ;)
What, social networks are a product and/or service now? I prefer the one that consists of my real friends and (to a lesser degree) acquaintances.
Can you beat that, Orkut? Huh?
i have a myspace, mainly because everyone else i know does. same with livejournal. i think gmail has the potential to be the ultimate SN site, actually... dunno if it'll go that way, though.
i have a facebook, but as far as i can tell it is totally worthless. private profiles are the death of a social network, and are starting to make myspace even less useful (if that's possible).
Facebook b/c the profiles don't look absolutely retarded like myspace, also less AIDS but slowly it's becoming myspace.
facebook is fucking fascist, not only is it nonfunctional and hideous but everyone is forced to have the exact same nonfunctional hideous profile. the next friendster.
i prefer anonymous text boards.
that way no one can tell that there are only six of us here.
I prefer to just e-mail the NSA all my personal information, and spare them the wasted bandwidth from data mining.
i do agree with >>46
i rarely use em, i have facebook n mixi
but when i got bored or just wanna kill time, imvu would work on it.
I use orkut because everyone I know use it
i had orkut, though that's kinda dead now I think.
I haven't bothered getting Myspace or Facebook, primarily because myspace is shit and I reckon facebook will just end up being replaced by some new fad site of the month. Facebook also has some pretty sus when it comes to privacy and the collection of personal data.
I have a Melodramatic, which kinda is the First SN site if you don't consider Livejournal a SN site and instead just a private blog. The people there aren't as fucking gay as in Myspace or whatever, but you'll see many more poets, emos, and gays there. It's a tradeoff, but the level of stupidity on melodramatic.com is much MUCH lower than many other SN sites.
Does newsvine.com count... kinda is... kinda better, kinda has a point?
>>52
lol, you think you are spending your time wisely on the internet
I like facebook, but only because basically everyone at my college is on it. I don't really like the layout, but at least it beats myspace.
noone invites me to mixi.
i just browse gree.
no last.fm users?
but thats how I always felt using it, its not all that much of a SN site anyways..
I use Mastodon a lot.
Check out eldritch.cafe.
ORKUT
also Pleroma (mastoodn is for loser)

Lots of banning but we can't see exactly what people have done to deserve it. All we get are vague ish statements like "anti-feminist" but no hard evidence or examples.
> De manière générale, notez que si vous n’aimez pas les « SJW », les « féminazies », les antifascistes, etc., vous gagnerez probablement du temps en vous inscrivant ailleurs.
(I am going by Google Translate's English version)
Why exactly?
Words are not merely the sum of their parts, National Socialism does not just mean socialism that is national in some way. Ditto for SJW.
Portmanteaus involving two separate words are like adjective-noun pairs, most often they refer to a particular kind of the noun don't apply the epithet expressed in one part to ALL things that exhibit the epithet expressed in the other part. Example: "toxic masculinity" does not mean that all masculinity is toxic, it refers specifically to a toxic kind.
