Thoughts on the principle/idea of "everything is political"? (22)

I personally think it is interesting and a bit thoughtful but also obnoxious and the people who say it are often no-fun fags.

The idea is that the thought of ignoring politics/disallowing areas to have political discussion is pointless because everything is a political action/idea even to something as inconesequintal and trivial as what anime studio you enjoy or what websites you frequent and thus not allowing discussion about conventional politics is simply censorship by people who want their head in the sand.

I don't personally think that and there's an obvious difference besides shitposting over what OS you use and the politics people want to talk about and are just mad the moderation/community doesn't want polemic shit and flamebait.

What about you?

Politics is a dirty scene.

I think things would go a lot more smoothly if you were to disallow areas to have political discussion but allow everything else. But if your reason for liking/disliking is political, the post should read somewhere on the lines of "I like this thing for political reasons," and leave it at that. That way, it's up to the responding party to start shit, and then it's clear who to take action against (even just a deleted post and a short 30 minute mute should suffice). Eventually, people may get tired of getting muted but lazy people wouldn't be willing to reset their routers over 30 minutes (hopefully).

It's very easy to keep discussion away from politics, but it's equally easy to make discussions about them too. So the idea is to make it more difficult in the places that you want to keep clean.

I hate talking about politics. Every discussion i see always either ends in politics or "that guy" always brings something political up that nobody asked for. And every political discussion always ends up with several angry people typing essays in order to change random people from across the globes mindsets even tho that is futile.

I saw an interesting exchange about this on a handegg fansite when I was looking for information about an outbreak happening to a club.

>I liked this site better when it was non-political and talked about sports.
>Life is political.
>Says who?
>People who have to fight for the right to be recognized as human beings. People who have to fight tooth and nail to ensure their "unalienable rights" aren't infringed on. But I'm sorry, that's political. And you just want to focus on Football.

The thread then devolved into a discussion about the inevitability of a second civil war in the USA, etc, etc, but the point of it was that nobody in that country should feel safe and secure, etc no matter the subject matter.

It's probably a bit different considering that sports, specifically handegg have been weaponized and politicized but it's an interesting way to look at it, although as I dissect it heavily leans on a very controversial brand of American identity politics that are probably despised/foreign to a lot of internet denizens.
Some see the compartmentalization of political discussion when it technically could be related to any discussion a bad thing because of this, because of the way political things can color every viewpoint a person has.
I don't personally buy into this, considering that it is often very inappropriate to shitfling about race or whatever else on a manga discussion site, when you could do this on the 10000s of places on the internet made for politics. Just some more food for thought on this viewpoint.

Everything can be made into a political issue. That is true. But it doesn't mean that it has to. The only people that make everything about politics are usually polarized people that fell for the propaganda they are trying to defend(which is what some political parties want but whatever). It's not worth discussing with them.

For the "right to be recognized as human beings" thing, there are some quotes I read in my local newspaper about why people are like this, because people feel like a lot of their causes are not political.

>I wish I could be shocked, but the reality is that anti-Blackness is at every level of our lives. The firing of this woman for a BLM mask illustrates the hypocrisy of franchise owners who are quick to support anti-Black, anti-LGBT and anti-woman causes ... on the basis of bigoted religious beliefs. I hope she sues,
>Over the summer, White wore homemade masks with the words “Black Lives Matter” and “Silence is Violence” to in-person training sessions at the school. She even made a few for teachers who asked her if she had extra. But at one point in the summer, the school's assistant principal texted her to say the school wanted her to stop wearing the masks because “parents will be coming around more and we don’t discuss the current political climate.”
>White continued to wear the masks.
>This is human rights and it should be something that is promoted at our school. It’s an excuse to not talk about it by saying this is politics, talk about it on your own time. It’s just an excuse because they’re uncomfortable with the conversation,
>This is a very straightforward, apolitical statement of something that has been made to be seemingly controversial but really isn’t

It colors everything for some people and they feel that it is involved in every topic, not just political ones and that the "no politics" thing is just an excuse to not discuss things that are uncomfortable for certain groups.
I personally feel like it's not worth discussing with people who feel like this, but it colors everything for some people.

everything is political because politics could decide to erase all humans and nothing would be able to be said and done by us, therefore everything IS because POLITICS builds the foundation
this is the most extreme way to put it you could tone it down and adjust it to apply to every little thing individually

It doesn't look like shitposting, more like OP is just trying to use examples from the wild and newspaper clippings to give examples of this train of thought.
Though, for the latter, it's different in the example of >>8 because it's not online. People advertising some political movement in real life isn't the same as interjecting with a political jab in a discussion about anime, it's not hard to ignore a BLM mask or a party shirt, they're not directly preaching to you about their movement.

I don't know.

I used to enjoy reading fantasy novels and shortstories, and playing videogames all day long. Then these people came and now publishers have political checklists authors need to meet and games are walking simulators with deliberately ugly girls.
They made everything political, and the only answer is to be political in return because otherwise they just take over everything. And I fucking hate it. And I hate the people that did this.

Blogposting aside, it's a shit idea that makes people that just want to be left alone hate you and your ideas.

>games are walking simulators with deliberately ugly girls.

Western games have been this since the 3D era.

Appeals to emotion, slippery slopes, catch 22's. The same rhetorics that have been used for shitposting on the internet are being exploited for sociopolitical gains in real life. Modern activists are real life shitposters whether they realize it (intentionally malicious) or not (blinded by spooks).

There are many groups that want people to believe that ''everything is political'' but in reality almost everything in life is either non-political or apolitical.

whether or not it is true, you are under no obligation to interact with someone that cannot be civil. if everyone could remember this, the world would be less stupid.
