in that novel things fall apart, by chinua achebe, some locusts come and the tribespeople are really happy about it because it means free and tasty dinner
but then later a white person shows up and they compare him to a locust and figure he will only bring more of his kind if they let him live. so they kill him and tie his bicycle to a tree.

i don't think the contrast is accidental. but i don't know the meaning of it. i also haven't reached the end of the book yet.
